Contribution Limits
- An individual can contribute an aggregate of $2,000 for each election (primary/general). No individual can make a cash contribution in excess of $100.
- If the contribution is drawn from a joint account, the contribution will be attributed to the individual who signed the check (unless the parties indicate in writing that it should be attributed to both account holders). If the check is signed by both parties, the contribution will be attributed to both equally. Under some circumstances, upon timely notice to the contributors, the campaign may presume that the contribution was made jointly.
- You may make your primary and general election contributions in one check. Therefore, an individual may write a $4,000 check, designating $2,000 for the primary and $2,000 for the general. If the check is drawn from a joint account, the campaign can accept one contribution for $8,000, with both husband and wife designating $2,000 for the primary and $2,000 for the general.
- The maximum contribution allowable from a partnership is $2,000 per election ($2,000/primary & $2,000/general). Please note that no portion of a contribution by a partnership may be attributed to a corporate partner. Partnership contributions count against two limits: once against the partnership’s own $2,000 limit, and once against each individual partner’s limit. This means that a check written on a partnership’s account may not exceed $2,000 regardless of the number of partners contributing. However, the individual partners may write personal checks for any additional amount they have remaining under their personal $2,000 limit.
Prohibited Contributions/Activities
- No check can be accepted with the words “Inc.,” “Corp.,” “P.C.,” “Ltd.” or similar words suggesting a corporate account. Corporations cannot provide goods or services for free or at least less then fair market value.
- Foreign nationals may not contribute unless they are permanent resident aliens. Otherwise, only U.S. citizens may contribute.
- A person cannot make a contribution in the name of another. Donor reimbursements in any form, either before or after making the contribution, are strictly prohibited.
- No contribution may be made from the general treasury fund of a corporation, labor union, or national bank.
- Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to contribute.
- Government contractors are prohibited from contributing. Government contractors include individuals who are negotiating for or have contracts to provide goods, services, or property to the United States government. However, the employees of a government contractor may still contribute their own personal funds.
- The campaign does not accept contributions from persons receiving welfare, unemployment compensation, or other relief benefits.
- Contributions or gifts to Deutsch for Senate are not tax deductible. Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 per election
